Letting Go

So,  the next lesson from the trapeze world is that in order to catch the next trapeze you have to let go of the one you're clinging to.  You just have to let go and trust that it will be there and you'll catch it.

A couple of weeks ago I said goodby to a gallery that just wasn't working for me,  and also took a load of clothes to the dump that  I needed for my "day job".  What's happening is that you create a void for the new (and wanted) to enter.

Offers from two new galleries appeared and I'm much too busy painting to do my "day job."   It's all working out.

       Just let go.

Trapeze Dreams

I love dreams where I wake up feeling wonderful.  Recently I dreamed that I was part of a group learning trapeze.  There were safety nets but I was afraid to climb up and leap.  Then another woman scrambled up to the  top and I saw I that if she could do it I could, too.   So I climbed quickly to the top and grabbed the trapeze and hung from my knees and felt the exhilaration of flying through the air effortlessly.

Why don't we do this more often?  The net's there, and we may find bouncing off the net fun, too.

My intention for the new year is to grab that trapeze and enjoy the flight.  How about you?

Halloween Bonfires

Chilly night roasting hotdogs and s'mores.   We noted that Irish whiskey enhances the taste of marshmalllows.

Silence

If you stop the scrabble of your boots
on the gravel slope down Carl's Hill,
hush the water bottle's slosh against your waist,
stand still until your breathing slows,
until the pulse quits drumming in your ears.
If cicadas or a light plane buzzing somewhere
tether you to earth enough to risk the trip
over the rim of the empty bowl, go.

Shoulder through the folks six deep
in front of each O'Keefe,
cup your ears to shut the babble out,
the whir of explanation from a dozen docent tapes.
If the blood-throb of your palms,
the synapse-clicks from her thick paint strokes,
lift you through a scoured hipbone,
over her red and fissured cliffs,
and into the sky, fly.

Or sit on the last bench in the last campground
past Borrego Springs.
When tourists pack their vans and go,
face away from the fire pit, release your breath.

In that thick silence
strung between the octillo spines,
stand the vast as long as you can.

Don't back away, but dive,
past sand, past sky, over the rim
of the empty bowl, and swim.

Color on a Grey Day

Why is it that we  find such solace in  bright colors, especially when it's gloomy out?

Clarity From A Distance

                                          Toward  Estremoz, pastel, 7 x 7"

Papa Hemingway could only write about Cuba  while in Michigan,  and about Michigan  in Cuba.   I guess that's why from the coast of Maine I find myself  compelled to paint Portugal again and again......
